Oris have released some of their most daringly unique watches at the biggest luxury watch event of the year, as part of its ProPilot and ProPilot X collections. With a background in aviation, the collections are produced to fit the needs of pilots that appreciate the collections’ high-standard functionality and original aesthetic.

Expecting the very best from Watches and Wonders 2023, Oris has gone above and beyond again, these new timepieces truly are conversation starters. Making their mark with an innovative collaboration and impressive craftsmanship, prepare to be inspired by the luxury Swiss watch brand’s newest creations.

Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition

For the Disney lovers, say hello to the Oris ProPilot X Kermit Edition luxury watch. This timepiece joins the Oris ProPilot collection, paying tribute to the brand’s aviation history.

The model is based on the Oris 39mm titanium ProPilot X Calibre 400, which includes a titanium case, bracelet, and see-through sapphire glass case back. With many features dedicated to its aviation principles, the ProPilot X Calibre 400 also has a power reserve of 120 hours, is highly anti-magnetic, and has a water resistance of up to 100 metres.

Partnering with Disney’s The Muppets, this watch is influenced by a key Oris principle; crafting timepieces that make people smile. Designed with joy of mechanics let’s take a look at how the Swiss watch brand joined forces with one of the world’s greatest storytellers.

A collaboration that no one was expecting this year, Oris brought us a watch that we didn’t know we needed. The ProPilot X Kermit edition is a light-hearted watch that’s sure to make a statement. Featuring a bright green dial and luminous indices, hour and minute hands, the watch is an eye-catching ode to the classic Disney character.

The Kermit the Frog emoji is seen on the first day of every month through the date window, as a humble reference to the collaboration. This is known as ‘Kermit day’, a motif that celebrates playfulness and not taking life too seriously. Inspired by the energy around Kermit’s character, the way he’s loved by many, and brings a sense of cheerfulness to those that know him, is what makes this watch really special. Combining the essence of Kermit the Frog with intricate ProPilot X technology is what lies at the heart of this fun model.

For fans of not only The Muppets, but also of quirky design and bold themes, this watch is truly wonderful. This timepiece is giving us the inspiration we anticipated from Watches and Wonders, and it’s safe to say that Oris’s creativity didn’t disappoint.

From Ken Laurent, Oris’s creative director, this year’s release was inspired by a long-standing Oris principle; “We talk a lot about functions in a literal sense, but really, the purpose of an Oris watch is to make people smile. That’s it. And with the ProPilot X Kermit Edition, there’s nothing else to it. Ok, yes, it’s powered by a brilliant movement and the case design is spectacular, but the function of this watch is really simple: to bring joy.”

And as for a future collaboration between Oris and The Muppets? “Maybe. You’ll have to wait and see...”

Oris ProPilot Altimeter

After three years of development, Oris have announced the return of their ground-breaking ProPilot Altimeter watch. Expertly crafted, this watch is an upgraded version of the original that was released back in 2014. The ProPilot Altimeter broke both records and expectations, becoming the world’s first ever and only watch to combine an automatic mechanical movement with a mechanical altimeter.

So, what’s new? Still as impressive as ever, the ProPilot Altimeter has come back with a bang. Rising to the occasion, it’s much higher, slimmer and lighter. The recent upgrades to this model make it one of the highest performing, most innovative watches they’ve ever created.

The Oris ProPilot collection provides wearers with a timepiece fit for even the most extreme outdoor activities. A collection dedicated to aviation watches, the ProPilot Altimeter is perfect for not only pilots, but also mountaineers and hikers. Relaying time, air pressure, and altitude, the watch is crafted for those embarking on the most daring adventures.

At Watches and Wonders this year, we found out exactly what an upgraded ProPilot Altimeter looks like. The same exceptional mechanics, but with an even higher performance. The watch indicates altitude up to 19,700 feet, an advancement from a previous 15,000 feet, whilst being slimmer and more lightweight still.

Three years of development on the ProPilot Altimeter means that Oris left no stone unturned when crafting this remarkable piece of technology. The watch case is made of an innovative carbon-fibre composite material, meaning it’s light and durable on the wrist. A titanium bezel and case back ensure maximum protection, for a watch with optimum endurance. The remarkable Oris Calibre 793 movement featured in this timepiece makes it as slimline automatic with an improved 56 hour power reserve, enclosed in a case 1mm thinner than the original.

It’s clear that this timepiece is made to perform outstandingly, but its brilliance doesn’t stop there. We’re captivated by a striking black dial and altitude scale, with luminous indices, numbers, and hands.

The grey case back showcases an intricate feet to meter conversion engraving, which is as useful as it is decorative. Fitted on a green textile strap with brown leather lining, the watch truly takes inspiration from original pilot watches.

The ProPilot Altimeter encapsulates advanced technical movements that whilst complex in design, are crafted to be simple to follow. Measuring the altimeter with this device is explained in four steps:

 1.    Starting with neutral mode, when the crown is screwed down securely into the case side. This mode of the ProPilot Altimeter displays the time only.

2.    To activate the altimeter, the crown at 4 o’clock is pulled down until a red ring on the crown appears.

3.    To set the altimeter, the crown is pulled down further and rotated until the red triangle at 6 o’clock aligns with the current air pressure on the central dial. The yellow indicator now shows the current altitude.

4.    To measure the altitude, push the crown back slightly until the red ring sits at the bottom of the crown. Changes in the altitude are displayed by the yellow indicator.

Oris product development engineer Richard Siegrist describes the functions of the ProPilot Altimeter technical wonder; “It has an integrated altimeter, which means you can read the altitude up to 19,700 feet or 6,000 metres from the dial. Once you calibrate it correctly, you can check your altitude at any time. And of course, it’s a watch that shows the time and date, too.”
