Watches & Wonders 2022 | New Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400

Bringing Oris’ joy of mechanics the forefront, the new Oris ProPilot X Calibre 400 has been unveiled at Watches & Wonders 2022, and it’s a timepiece we’re very excited about.

Inspired by more than a century of aviation heritage, Oris have always been motivated by their mechanical movements, and it’s clear that this watch is no different. Designed to bring happiness no matter what angle you come at it from, the ProPilot X Calibre 400 has been defined as a “mechanical joy machine”. Let’s find out more…

Colour takes the lead

Designed with a 39mm titanium case, this watch boasts a raw, technical look thanks to its satin and sand-blasted angular lines - which are, of course, inspired by the brands aviation heritage. The familiar ProPilot bezel, sculpted bracelet and oversized crown are also crafted in titanium for a durable finish.

But the dial colours are what catch our eye. We’ve seen colourful dials take the watch world by storm and with our Head of Luxury Brands, Bruce, predicting more hues working their way in, and we can confirm he was right. An expressive palette of grey, blue, and salmon bring life and colour to your wrist, and definitely create a fresh feel about the watches - our favourite has to be the salmon. So, what lies beneath the dial?

A mechanical wonder

As we’ve already mentioned, the ProPilot X Calibre 400 follows in a long line of Oris pilot’s watches which date back to the early 1900s - but its power lies beyond its associations.

The beating heart of the watch (and arguably one of the main features of this new timepiece), the Calibre 400 movement is one of the brand’s new generations of high-performance automatics. Crafted entirely in-house, this movement is precisely accurate. So much so that it is chronometer certified, even after it’s been exposed to the sort of magnetic fields we’re surrounded by every day. With a power reserve of up to five days, it certainly boasts class-leading reliability.

Keeping an eye on time

And then there’s the view from the other side. With the movement being such an important part of the watch, it’s a no brainer that it must be on display. That’s why the titanium case back has a sapphire crystal glass window to frame the Calibre 400. With an objective to bring watchmaking closer to the customer, this timepiece boasts passion both on the outside and on the inside. Can you tell we love it?

We’ve tried to open a secret door for people to experience the watch’s design – and to bring joy” – Ken Laurent, Creative Director of Oris.

A marriage of design and mechanics gives this timepiece is a meaningful touch and makes for a beautiful new addition to the Oris collection. Designed to bring joy, you say? It’s certainly made us smile!
