Watches & Wonders 2022 | New Hublot Square Bang Unico
Entering Geneva with a bang, Hublot have unveiled their collection at Watches & Wonders 2022; and not only is it a new watch, but a completely new case shape for the brand. Introducing the Hublot Square Bang.
Creators of the most resistant materials and extraordinary complications, is there anything that Hublot hasn’t explored? The answer is the shape. A new pillar called “The Shaped Collection”, these five square watches sit alongside the already-iconic Spirit of Big Bang, boasting 43mm case sizes and intricate designs.
Defined by innovation, sophistication, and cutting-edge expertise, Hublot are known for their multi-award-winning watches, and it seems like this collection is no different. Are you ready to find out more? I know we definitely are.
Radically different
We’ll start with the watch shape first, and with a square case comes its own complications. But Hublot’s “Art of Fusion” pushed them through any challenges that came their way. For example, since every calibre has a wheel as a basic component, it therefore needs a round movement. So, if you’re going to place a round movement harmoniously in a square case, this requires a very specific style.
Hublot achieved this and brought more to the table. Revealing the beating heart of the watch through a sapphire crystal glass, the in-house Unico movement is proudly displayed in the form of a skeleton dial, including a chronograph column wheel visible at 6 o’clock. We always love it when watchmakers reveal their secret inner workings!
Square watches are also notoriously difficult to make water resistant, and the Hublot Square Bang has an impressive 100m for its unique shape.
Appealing aesthetics
On either side of the Square Bang, you’ll find the ‘ears’ from the Big Bang's case which gives balance to the design whilst protecting the case. Available in titanium, ceramic, King Gold and their famous ‘All Black’ finish, it’s clear the Square Bang has a very modern feel. A new strap design that’s decorated with ‘chocolate squares’ further emphasises the collections’ identity.
Not forgetting you can also personalise the Square Bang. Thanks to its interchangeable One Click system, choose between rubber, alligator, and soon soft-touch leather straps to switch the look of your watch.
Square Bang All Black
Now for the really big talking point. Like all the “All Blacks”, this Hublot Square Bang All Black is limited to 250 pieces and is the only limited edition of the Square Bang collection.
More than 15 years after its invention, the All Black once again proves its power, showcasing black hues on the case, bezel, push-pieces, strap, plate, and hour markers, while polished or satin-finishes alternate to reveal subtle shades. A new take on the “Art of Fusion”, this watch is a rarity where ceramic and titanium meet, harmonise and merge.
We love how Hublot have continued to push the boat out, expanding on their visions and watchmaking techniques for a new collection that’s bound to go down in history. The Hublot Square Bang is sure to be a square-faced icon of the Swiss watch world.
