One To Watch | TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200
We’re super excited to tell the story of the brand-new TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 series – a bold, stylish, all-terrain sports watch which carries on TAG Heuer’s luxury diving watch legacy that began four decades ago.
Following shortly after last year’s highly-anticipated launch of the Aquaracer Professional 300, this new series is a robust but sophisticated tool for life’s many challenges. The forever-loved details of the Aquaracer collection have had yet another makeover and we’re totally here for it.
“The Aquaracer Professional 200 is a companion for a fast-paced, unforgettable life full of adventure and achievement, a life lived beyond the edge” – Frédéric Arnault, TAG Heuer CEO. Anyone else eager to find out more? Let’s dive in…
An evolution of all its history
Going back to 1978 when Jack Heuer created the Heuer Reference 844 - it was this timepiece which defined a new high-performance category of versatile wristwatches that could be relied on in extreme conditions.
The name “Aquaracer” was introduced in 2004 and continued the legacy of the iconic six design codes: a uni-directional rotating bezel, screw-down crown, water resistant of at least 200m, luminous markings, sapphire crystal glass and a double safety clasp.
Last year’s reborn series saw these features get an upgrade; such as the bezel showcasing twelve facets, and a refined, repeating horizontal line on the dial. Shorter lugs with brushed and polished finishes along with a three-link bracelet made their way onto these new models too, finalised with a screw-down crown with twelve facets and protection. So, what makes the Aquaracer Professional 200 different?
Drawing the lines
Like its sister Aquaracer Professional 300 series, it too picks up on those design codes established more than forty years ago, however at every turn this new collection of watches are about refinement, revealing subtle but definitive differences along the way.
For a start, it’s much more compact at 40mm with the option of a smaller 30mm case size. The bezel still features a diving scale, only now it’s engraved into a steel insert instead of ceramic and the central bracelet link is polished rather than brushed.
It doesn’t stop there either. Moving onto the dial and the Professional 200 adopts a more classic sports watch code of straight-edged, trapezoidal hour markers (or diamond dot if you’re wanting that extra touch of luxury), sword-shaped hands and crisp white detailing for a sleek touch. Super-LumiNova coats the hour markers and hands but waves goodbye to the bezel for a more sartorial look.
One that stands out for us is this TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 200 Ladies Watch thanks to it’s baby blue dial. As we’ve seen going into 2022, colour is a huge trend for watches and in particular pastel colours. Protected by sapphire crystal glass, the sunray effect creates a shine that looks simple stunning.
Diving beneath the dial
You’re spoilt for choice when it comes to the movement. Unlike the Professional 300, the new Professional 200 is home to either quartz or automatic movements in both the 40mm and 30mm models.
Capturing the go-anywhere spirit of exploration, the watch’s case back is also engraved with a compass, replacing the scaphander diving helmet that has featured on Aquaracer case backs since 2002 for a completely new look.
With eleven timepieces to choose from, it’s clear to see these dynamic watches are fit for pretty much any challenge – whether it’s ice-climbing or city exploring.
