September's Birthstone | Everything You Need To Know About Sapphire

September represents one of the rarest gemstones in the world, the sapphire. Reflecting wisdom, loyalty and nobility, the birthstone for September, sapphire, can be found in many colours including purple, yellow, pink and even green – but it’s the royal shade of blue that is favoured by many.

Virgo & Libra’s birthstone for September

Star signs Virgo and Libra both have the sapphire as their birthstone. For Virgos, the sun transits this sign until September 22nd, and for Libra, September 23rd into October. Strong and resilient, the sapphire will protect the wearer and represents intense inner strength. Virgos can also connect with the beautiful green stone peridot and Libras can also connect with the lustrous opal.

Where is the September Birthstone found?

A relative of the ruby, July’s birthstone, sapphires are a form of the mineral corundum. Red corundum is called ruby, whilst all other forms are sapphires - hence why this precious gem can be found in many shades. Sapphire and rubies are often found in the same geographical locations with some of the finest blue sapphires mined in Sri Lanka. However other popular locations include Madagascar, Montana, Australia, and Tanzania.

Sapphire is a gemstone that’s associated with royalty due to its regal tones. It’s believed to attract blessings and gifts.
