The name ruby comes from the Latin word ruber, which means red. This colour is formed due to the element chromium; when there’s more chromium present, the stronger the shade of red.
Where are rubies found then? Well, rubies tend to be mined in various places around South East Asia such as Thailand and in the Pailin & Samlout District of Cambodia. The Republic of North Macedonia is also the only country in Europe to have naturally occurring rubies.
