New OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300m | Celebrating 60 Years of James Bond

The name’s Bond. James Bond. One of cinema’s most iconic characters, 007 made his on-screen debut back in 1962 and sixty years later he remains everyone’s favourite spy. The mission for OMEGA? To add innovation and suave style to Bond’s look. And in 1995, the Seamaster Diver 300m did just that.

Oscar-winning costume designer, Lindy Hemming was working on GoldenEye when she proposed that 007 should wear an OMEGA Seamaster 300, “I was convinced that Commander Bond, a naval man, a diver, and a discreet gentleman of the world would wear this watch.” – and how right she was. Fast forward to today, we’re celebrating this iconic partnership with a brand-new OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300m.

Not only are blue dial watches on-trend for this year, but blending design details and innovative materials from the original watch worn by Pierce Brosnan in GoldenEye make this timepiece extra special. It’s definitely a must-have for 2023 and beyond!” - Bruce Andrews, our Head of Luxury Watches.

We can’t wait to tell you more, so let’s dive straight in!

New OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300m

In GoldenEye, 007 uses a laser installed in his Seamaster (below left) to cut an escape hatch in the floor of Alex Trevelyan’s train. Later, in Cuba, Trevelyan confiscates the watch and uses its helium release valve to disarm two limpet mines that 007 has planted. This new watch (below right) is a tribute to Bond’s first ever OMEGA watch…

Starting with the dial and bezel. Made from blue oxalic anodized aluminium, the dial features laser-engraved waves (a classic detail for OMEGA Seamaster watches that we love), whilst the bezel showcases a diving scale filled with white Super-LumiNova. For this special timepiece, the commemorative “60” replaces the diving scale’s traditional inverted triangle, and lights up luminescent green with the minute hand.

It really is a party at the back thanks to its film-themed case back. Boasting watchmaking magic, we love how when you turn the 42mm watch over, you will find a replicate of the famous 007 opening sequence with Bond in silhouette and a spinning gun barrel design. Protected by sapphire crystal glass decorated with micro-structured metallisation, the patent pending “moiré” effect animation is linked to the running of the lollipop central seconds hand, so the action never stops.

Powered by a precise Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 8806, this watch comes on a mesh-style bracelet (similar to the OMEGA Seamaster that James Bond wore in ‘No Time To Die’). It’s the perfect watch to take you from the office to the dinner party in suave-style.

Not only is the watch a collectable’s favourite, but we think the box is pretty special too. Presented in a blue wooden presentation box, it features the original Diver 300m wave pattern and three dots inspired by the classic Bond opening title sequence. Not forgetting a secret push button on the right - how cool is that? Coming to Beaverbrooks soon, this watch is truly a must-have for all 007 fans and OMEGA lovers alike.

The history of OMEGA & James Bond

With over 25 years of iconic partnership, there’s plenty more OMEGA watches that have been trusted by 007. We talk through the history of OMEGA & James Bond plus how to get the look, including watches from the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m and Aqua Terra 150m collections.

Starting with the film after GoldenEye. In Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), Bond wears a modified version of the previous Seamaster 300m, using the watch to extract the helium release valve when onboard Elliot Carver’s stealth ship. The valve forms part of a remote detonator, which 007 combines with a glass jar and a grenade to blast a hole in the ship. The same Seamaster and helium release valve come into play on the next two films in The World Is Not Enough (1999) and Die Another Day (2002).

Moving onto Daniel Craig’s first James Bond movie, Casino Royale (2006), and to tie in with the story of Bond becoming a 00 he wears two different watches. First, he sports a black Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m model. Then, once he has earned his double-0 status, he switches to the Seamaster Diver 300m Co-Axial Chronometer, below left.

You can get the look with this OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300m Automatic Men’s Watch. Featuring a similar blue ceramic bezel and white enamel diving scale, this modern version boasts slightly larger laser-engraved waves and a date window at 6 o’clock rather than 3 o’clock.

Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m

The sequel to Casino Royale, there’s no surprise that the Seamaster Planet Ocean 600m makes another appearance in Quantum of Solace (2008). Like the Planet Ocean worn in Casino Royale, this Bond watch is gadget-free and instead worn to complement Bond’s suave-style. Boasting a classic black dial and bezel with a discreet 42mm case and stainless steel bracelet, we can see why it’s 007’s watch of choice.

Featuring a helium-escape valve, the Master Chronometer calibre 8900 movement is at the heart of this timepiece and can be seen through the transparent case back. To achieve Master Chronometer status, it has passed the eight rigorous tests set by METAS (The Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology). If it’s good enough for Bond…

Seamaster Aqua Terra 150m

Four years later in Skyfall (2012), an ex-MI6 agent attempts to carry out a vendetta on Bond’s overseer, M, stealing a hard drive with top-secret information on. Wearing two different OMEGA Seamaster watches on his journey to save M, we’re putting the spotlight on his sophisticated Aqua Terra with blue dial.

You can get the look with this OMEGA Seamaster Aqua Terra Automatic Chronometer Men's Watch. Achieving the instantly recognisable style statement that OMEGA is famous for, this watch boasts the same deep blue dial, modernised with vertical lines instead of horizontal and the date window at 6 o’clock rather than 3 o’clock. This timepiece will have you dreaming of life on-board a luxury yacht in no time.

Seamaster 300 "Spectre" Limited Edition

After wearing the Seamaster Aqua Terra, Bond receives his Seamaster 300 in Spectre (2015). Classed as an explosive device, it proves a vital bit of kit when 007 and M are cuffed to a chair. Throwing the watch at the villains when the time is right, the watch’s explosion allows the heroes to escape. Although Bond’s was a limited edition timepiece, the Seamaster 300 collection is still much-loved today.

Seamaster Diver 300m 007 Edition

The latest James Bond film to hit our screens, No Time To Die (2021) saw Q modify Bond’s Seamaster Diver 300m on the flight to Safin’s lair, fitting an electromagnetic pulse designed to disable electronics. Bond employs the pulse to gain entry to Safin’s base and then to dispatch Primo by targeting the henchman’s bionic eye.

Truly a special timepiece, the OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300m 007 Edition Titanium Automatic Men's Watch is not only the identical watch to the one Bond wears in the film, but it also celebrates 25 years of OMEGA and James Bond. Designed with military-inspired details and crafted in titanium, this timepiece is action-packed and ready to go.
