Never before has a film had such anticipation. The James Bond film No Time To Die was delayed for obvious reasons in 2020 and we’re finally going to get to see our favourite spy back in action on September 30th.

Our favourite part of all Bond films is of course seeing the OMEGA watch that adorns James Bond’s wrist. For No Time To Die, it’s the striking OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300m 007 Edition.

So, what’s so special about this 007 edition watch?

An updated version of OMEGA’s original Bond watch, the brand have taken all the best bits of the iconic Seamaster Diver 300m and made them even better. Not only does this watch look and feel great, but its super-accurate Co-Axial Master Chronometer movement will ensure you’re never late for martini’s at the casino bar ever again.

Sporting a new case, new material and a new look, the fact that this OMEGA 007 edition isn’t a limited edition proves that this is a design that can really go the distance.

A fully-loaded tool watch

Although everything about this watch is bold and modern, we’re really pleased to see that OMEGA have stayed true to the classic shape of the Seamaster Diver 300m.

The scalloped bezel, twisted lyre lugs, helium escape valve, and signature 60-minute bezel are all still there, but the subtle updates give the whole watch a much more ‘toolish’ aesthetic.

Still sporting a substantial 42mm case, this Seamaster Diver 300m is now thinner thanks to the domed sapphire crystal, whilst its grade 2 titanium construction makes it lighter, tougher and more durable.

In short, this watch really feels like the kind of watch you’d expect 007 to wear.

The original vintage

But perhaps the most striking aspect of this latest Bond watch is its abundance of vintage touches.

A trend which we’ve seen become more and more popular in the watch world over recent years, it’s a style that’s not going anywhere soon - which is great news for OMEGA who do the faux-vintage look extremely well.

Lightweight and comfortable on the wrist thanks to its tool watch-inspired titanium Milanese bracelet, what really gives this watch its striking old-school flair is its ‘tropical-coloured’ dial and bezel - so called because its warm, aged-brown hue is the colour which old black dial watches eventually became over time.

For those explorers that want to really embrace the vintage style, OMEGA have designed a 007 edition with a brown, grey and beige NATO strap. Featuring a titanium loop with ‘007’ engraved on it, it’s the perfect alternative for your dress-down days.

Broad Arrow

The dial itself is aluminium rather than ceramic, and has a clean, crisp and functional look without the signature wave-pattern that we have been used to seeing on previous models. But we’re pleased to see that the hour markers and hands are reminiscent of earlier models, albeit filled with vintage lume which contrasts nicely against the dial - the red accents give a nice punch of contrast too.

However, unlike some other Bond watches, the only nod to its 007 connection on the dial is the military Broad Arrow at 6 o’clock.

A symbol which has traditionally been used by the British government to denote property of the Crown, this understated style makes it a perfect replica of the watch seen on screen, and is just right for when you want to go undercover.

Even the caseback features some pretty cool Bond references, though they might be just for your eyes only. Making for a super-cool talking point, in addition to another Broad Arrow symbol, the solid caseback is engraved with genuine military-issue codes which can be decoded as follows:

0552 - The code number for Navy personnel

923/797 - The code for a dive watch

A - Identifies a watch with a screw-in crown

007 - Bond. James Bond.

62 - The year of the first Bond Movie, Dr. No.

But it’s not just the exterior of the watch that has been updated for Daniel Craig’s last mission for Her Majesty’s Secret Service.

Whilst the first OMEGA Seamaster worn by Bond was a quartz watch, this version of the Diver 300m has the modern OMEGA Manufacture Calibre 8806 Co-Axial Master Chronometer movement beating under its hood.

The Master Chronometer movement

Made entirely in-house in the OMEGA workshops, the Calibre 8806 has a power reserve of 55 hours, is accurate to a minimum of 0/+5 seconds per day, and is resistant to magnetic fields of over 15,000 gauss.

We’re more than a little bit in awe of the OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300m 007 Edition. Okay, so it might not be packed full of henchman-dispatching gadgets, but we’d go as far as to say that this Seamaster 007 Edition might just become one of the most desirable watches of the whole Seamaster 300m collection.
