One To Watch | Bremont Longitude

Telling the story of time itself, discover the Bremont Longitude. This classic yet contemporary watch pays tribute to Great Britain’s role in watch and clock making over the past 150 years. Featuring the Bremont ENG300 automatic calibre, it’s housed in a very special limited-edition timepiece.

With different variations, combined in a limited collection of just 300 pieces, let’s turn back the time and find out why this watch is so very special.

A history of watchmaking

Did you know, back in the 1800s almost half the world’s clocks and pocket watches were made in Great Britain? It’s these great horological achievements that have inspired Bremont since. Packed with tonnes of history, the Bremont Longitude has many aspects to it which celebrate the nation’s contribution to time, starting with its name.

The Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London, became the longitudinal line - otherwise known as the prime meridian - which marked the standard Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) against which other time zones were set. Sound confusing? In easier terms, it’s the location in which east meets west at Longitude 0° making Greenwich the centre of world time.

The finer details

The prime meridian was long symbolised by a brass strip in the Royal Observatory courtyard. If you were to stand with one foot on either side of this brass strip, you’re perfectly in the middle of east and west. Cool, right? Well, Bremont went a step further and partnered with the Royal Observatory to incorporate this exact brass into the watch’s case back – so you’re basically wearing the centre of world time on your wrist!

The dials feature a raised central globe with longitude lines and a red line to represent the prime meridian. A red circular power reserve indicator represents the ball on top of the observatory that drops on the hour, this is what sailors would use to set their watches.

Designed in steel, rose gold and white gold, the 40mm case size is much smaller than the brand’s previous historic timepieces but nether the less tells one of their biggest stories to date.

British watchmaking returns

Blending the old with the new and at the heart of this historic timepiece lies Bremont’s first ever manufactured movement, the ENG300 calibre. A significant milestone for the brand, this automatic movement is equipped with a silicon escapement and a power reserve of up to 65 hours. For a final finishing touch, ‘Made in England’ is engraved in true British style.

Created within Bremont’s manufacturing centre named “The Wing”, majority of the components were made exclusively here in England. All of these amazing accomplishments combined into one watch, it’s fair to say we think Bremont have achieved their objective of bringing watchmaking back to the British shores.
