A Guide To Buying An OMEGA Watch

A Guide To Buying An OMEGA Watch

From pioneering space exploration to unrivalled sports timekeeping and silver screen appearances, owning an OMEGA watch is like owning a little piece of history.

Founded in 1848 in Switzerland’s Jura mountains, their pioneering Swiss watchmaking knowledge has been passed down through generations and has earned them a number of world firsts.

Making history as the first watch on the Moon, OMEGA’s string of accolades includes not only their award-winning Olympic timekeeping, but also their dedication to watchmaking innovation, which has seen them create the world’s first Master Chronometer.

What is a Master Chronometer?

To earn the name Master Chronometer, a watch and its movement must pass 8 stringent tests which go far beyond the normal chronometer certification. Approved by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), these watches are subjected to 10 days of testing and must demonstrate resistance to magnetic fields of 15,000 gauss.

Our guide will take you through OMEGA’s collections to help you find the watch that’s perfect for you.

OMEGA Speedmaster

First released over 60 years ago, the OMEGA Speedmaster has probably got the most legendary heritage of any Swiss Made watch. One of only a handful of watches to pass NASA’s most stringent tests, its stellar precision, strength and reliability led to it becoming the first watch to be worn on the Moon in 1969.

Whilst its contribution to space exploration has earned the Speedmaster its nickname: the Moonwatch, it was originally designed as a racing chronograph. Its dial was inspired by the dashboard of Italian cars, and it was the first watch to feature a tachymetric scale on its bezel - making it an immediate hit with competitive racing drivers. Hints of pink and diamond embellished chronographs make for a beautifully feminine timepiece on this OMEGA Speedmaster Automatic Chronograph Diamond Ladies Watch.

With an asymmetrical case, black step dial and the famous dot over 90 on the anodised aluminium bezel ring, we love this OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch Professional Men's Watch for its iconic story and new Master Chronometer Certification - the highest standard of precision, performance and magnetic resistance in the Swiss watch industry.
