We love celebrating life’s best bits with you, so there’s nothing we love more than a good proposal story or seeing your wedding pics. To celebrate Pride, we want to share some lovely proposal stories from some of our LGBTQ+ customers and our own Beaverbrooks family and some gorgeous wedding pics too.

From holiday romance to forever - Jack & Reece
A regular customer in our Reading Store, we knew we had to share Jack’s lovely proposal story with you. After originally meeting on holiday, Jack and Reece found their fairytale together and Reece was completely blown away as Jack stepped down on one knee to ask him to marry him.
“Reece and I randomly met over seven years ago whilst we were both on holiday in Barbados. We continued to date when we both returned to the UK, and even though we lived over an hour apart from each other we persevered, met, and spoke as much as we could.”
Planning the proposal
“We always joked about the idea about getting married, but I knew Reece was never going to get down on one knee, so I said to myself if I do this I want it to be big, I want it to be surrounded by the people who mean the most to us.
I went to the Beaverbrooks Reading store to choose the ring and the amazingly helpful Charlotte went above and beyond to keep me calm and help me find the perfect ring. It wasn’t easy as there was a lot of choice. I wanted it to be more than a simple male wedding band but not too in your face, but after a lot of deliberation, I had the ring.”

Jack’s proposal story
“So, with all his friends and family gathered around singing happy birthday to him, I took to the mic afterwards to say a few thank yous, with my final thank you to Reece for being the most wonderful boyfriend I could ask for, and that’s when much to his surprise I asked him to be my husband and he said YES! The reaction from everyone was so overwhelming, there was cheering, crying laughter, it was just the most amazing time. We haven’t started wedding plans yet, but a spoken about an abroad wedding. We have always said our relationship has been a fairy tale after meeting in Barbados, and we now have our happy ever after!”

Instant love with Lynn & Carla
Lynn is a loyal customer in our Aberdeen store and has shared her very romantic proposal to her now fiancée Carla. Lynn and Carla are now only a few months away from their wedding, but let’s hear more about where it all began…
“I’ve been with my lovely wife-to-be for four years now. I knew a couple of months into our relationship that she was someone special to me. As time passed we had jokingly spoken about what kind of ring we would love to have if we ever got engaged, but what she didn’t know was she was actually helping me decide on the one I would buy her!
I decided that I wanted to make my engagement special for Carla and take her away to the West coast of Scotland just outside of Oban called Appin. The Appin Bay view has the best views I had ever seen. Waking up to that view every morning for the couple of days we were there was amazing, I knew I had to ask her on the balcony on sunset.”
Carla’s proposal story
“We had told each other weeks before to write letters to each other and pass them over for us to read. As she is reading, I placed the box with her engagement ring behind the letter and asked her if she would Marry me. She looked at me as if to say ‘are you joking?’ , as I normally prank her all the time!
Our journey so far has been amazing for planning our big day. The help we have received from the Aberdeen Beaverbrooks store has been amazing. All staff have been so patient with us on deciding what we want and the most important thing is they listened to us on what we wanted. Hats off to them!
Wedding plans & advice
“We are getting married this October and we have just received our wedding rings which we are over the moon with and love.
The best advice I could give anyone is to take the time out to listen to your partner and communicate what you both want in your big day, others will be trying and change things but as long as you have each other that’s all that matters in my eyes.”
The engagement ring

From friends to married - Angie & Victoria
Angie and Victoria started as friends and quickly realised they were in love. When you know you know, right? Not only has Angie shared her beautiful proposal story, she’s also shared photos from their stunning wedding too.
“I first met Victoria late 2017, both of us had different partners at the time, however we became friends and when the time was right and we were both single, our relationship naturally progressed into a relationship. She is the first person I have fell truly, madly and deeply in love with, she is literally my best friend, and after the quickest year (she moved in with me after being together two months) I got down on one knee, overlooking the ocean in Mexico in 2019 and asked the girl of my dreams to be my wife. Victoria had always spoke about a halo style ring and when I saw one in Beaverbrooks, I just knew that it was the perfect ring for my perfect girl.”
The wedding day

Fast forward three years, after a years delay thanks to Covid, we had our happily forever after in Dalziel Park, Motherwell. And it was the most perfect day.

A romantic road trip - Mario & Junior
Mario is a sales consultant in our Gyle store and our hearts were warmed to hear his lovely proposal story. With a beautiful beach setting and crystal clear water, it was the perfect setting for his next chapter with his now fiancé Junior.
“I met my partner Junior three years ago. From the moment I met junior I just knew he was different, he makes me smile when I think of him and to this day still gives me butterflies in my stomach, as corny as it sounds its true.”
The proposal
“We decided to do the Scottish NC500 road trip in July last year as part of our summer holidays as we weren’t keen on going abroad.
I had it all planned that on our second day we would arrive at a small beautiful beach on the west coast called Achmelvich and I would propose. The beach has the most amazing crystal clear blue water and white sands. I remember getting to the beach to propose and my stomach was in knots and my heart was pumping, nervous but excited, he said yes and I remember feeling complete as we hugged and kissed on the beach.”

No proposal needed - Ben & Joe
Ben & Joe didn’t need a proposal, they just knew. After being together for six years and always knowing where they would want to get married, all they had to do was book a date and they were ready to plan and find the perfect wedding rings.

Their story
“Our proposal was quite unromantic as there wasn’t one! We had been in a relationship for six years and just decided between us that it was time to think about getting married. We knew the venue we wanted, so went for a visit and within 30 minutes had booked our wedding.”
The wedding rings
“The first thing we did after booking our wedding was go ring shopping. We went to our local city (Derby) and Beaverbrooks happened to be the first shop we went to. Neither of us are big jewellery wearers so we had no clue what we were looking for! The staff were amazing and took the time to explain the different types of metals and styles, and what was available to us within our price range.
We didn’t want to buy the rings immediately but came away with some good advice and knowing that we would be returning to Beaverbrooks. About a year later we returned to the shop and again the staff were amazing. Our tastes are slightly different, but we knew we wanted a similar style of ring. The staff member brought out a box full of ring styles and sizes for us to try until we found the perfect ones. In the end we went for the same style of ring but with a different finish and different width sizes.
One thing we loved was being able to get the rings engraved - we chose to have the title of the song we walked down the aisle to and the date of the wedding. Again, to suit our personal taste, we were able to choose different fonts for the engravings.”
The wedding
“With the COVID-19 pandemic, there were lots of nerves in the run up to the wedding with not knowing if it could go ahead or not. We were very lucky that restrictions had eased enough by our wedding day to allow us to have the day that we had dreamed of. We had to spend most of the day outside, but it was gloriously sunny so nobody complained about that at all!
As I said before, neither of us are big jewellery wearers and the thought of wearing a wedding ring seemed alien to us both before the wedding and it took some time to get used to wearing it, but now it stays on 24/7 and I love how it is the one reminder of our wedding and marriage that I see and feel every day.”
