One To Watch | New OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch Master Chronometers

We’re here to talk about OMEGA’s world-renowned Speedmaster Moonwatch collection, and the powerful update it’s getting for 2021.

With centuries of experience and numerous industry-firsts to their name, OMEGA take the act redefining the world of Swiss watches very seriously.

This redesign of a legend really embodies this ethos, with the new OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch watches boasting unique design updates and, perhaps most noteworthily, the powerful Master Chronometer certified anti-magnetic movement – the calibre 3861.

The Moonwatch is now Master Chronometer Certified

The arrival of the Co-Axial Master Chronometer Calibre 3861 means the new Moonwatches reach new levels of resistance. Firstly, they will be unaffected by even the most extreme magnetic fields reaching 15,000 gauss (the same level as a typical MRI scanner).

It also means the entire watch is now a certified Master Chronometer, OMEGA’s own certification to guarantee the highest standard of precision, performance and magnetic resistance in the Swiss watch industry. To achieve the mark, every single Moonwatch will undergo eight rigorous tests before it leaves the OMEGA factory, overseen by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).

This new calibre 3861 Speedmaster Moonwatch is still very much the Moonwatch we all know and love; worn by Apollo 11 astronauts on the moon in 1969; it’s still flight-qualified by NASA and is also certified for us in manned space flight.

New bracelet & dial details

It’s not just the interior and inner workings that has received a makeover. On the wrist, OMEGA have made more changes with a new integrated, fully brushed bracelet with five links per row. Each link is smaller than in the previous bracelet, meaning it will sit flusher and more comfortably on the wrist.

It also includes a new clasp with a polished OMEGA logo on a satin-finished cover.

Moving onto the dial, a very subtle change can also be found on the Moonwatch’s new minute track. In accordance with the Calibre 3861’s frequency, the minute track is now split by three divisions, as opposed to the five divisions on previous models.
