OMEGA Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary
Having pulled out of Baselworld this year, we travelled to Zurich to see Omega and their new releases.
Much of what we saw has to be to be kept under wraps, but there’s a few things we can share!
Omega Speedmaster Apollo 11 50th Anniversary
In the year of the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 first manned mission to the moon, we knew Omega would have something pretty special up their sleeve. We were not disappointed!
Created using a new 18ct gold alloy developed by Omega, dubbed the 18ct Moonshine gold, this golden timepiece marks the golden anniversary of the first moon landing beautifully.
Limited to 1,014 pieces, the new 18ct gold is a slightly paler hue than the traditional 18ct yellow gold, offering high resistance to the fading of colour and lustre over time.
It stays true to the 1969 original with its burgundy bezel ring and vintage Omega logos on the dial, crown and bracelet clasp, as well as boasting the same reference number as the original; the BA145.022.
For true Speedmaster fans, the BA145.022 is one of the great highlights in the watch’s famous history. During the 1969 celebrations of the moon landing, the very first edition of this model was gifted to President Richard Nixon at a gala dinner in Houston, whilst model numbers 3 - 28 were given to the NASA astronauts involved in the historic moment of the moon landing.
This truly is a piece of history that looks as stunning as its story is compelling.
