A Guide To Buying A TUDOR Watch

A Guide To Buying A TUDOR Watch

Designed to withstand the rigours of time, a TUDOR watch will take you into the world of micro-precision for a true forever watch. Launched in 1946 by Rolex founder Hans Wilsdorf, TUDOR’s continuous desire to push the boundaries of the watch industry has kept their watches distinctive for over half a century.

Since 2015, TUDOR has offered mechanical Manufacture Calibres with multiple functions and superior performance. All TUDOR manufacture Calibres are known as “weekend-proof” with a 70-hour power reserve, meaning you can take your watch off on a Friday evening and put it back on again on Monday morning without having to reset it.

If you’re considering buying a TUDOR watch, or you’ve got your heart set on one but unsure which model is for you, this guide will take you through the different TUDOR models and collections to help you decide which one’s your dream watch. Shall we start with something new? We think so…

TUDOR Heritage Ranger

Say hello to the TUDOR Heritage Ranger collection. Paying homage to the British North Greenland Exhibition which set out 70 years ago, these new watches showcase ground-breaking technology and polished aesthetic that reflects the 1960s watch.

COSC-certified and tested as low as -40 degrees, these watches boast a 39mm case size, domed sapphire crystal glass and are waterproof to 100m. New for 2022, you can find the word ‘RANGER’ on the dial - something TUDOR have introduced for this collection. Choose between a stainless steel bracelet, leather & rubber strap with beige stitching, or jacquard fabric strap for a military look.

We love:

  • Homes the MT5402 manufacture calibre

  • The name ‘Ranger’ was patented by Hans Waldorf in 1929

  • All about legibility in extreme conditions

Perfect for:

  • Explorers who are looking for a ‘go anywhere and do anything’ tool watch

  • Those looking for a luxury watch with history

  • A classic, vintage watch that will take you from the office to the mountain

TUDOR Black Bay

Without argument one of TUDOR’s most iconic collections, the TUDOR Black Bay celebrates its 10th anniversary in 2022, paying homage to over 60 years of diving watches with extraordinary heritage. An understated, functional and reliable tool, the TUDOR Black Bay has undergone some of the most extreme field-testing, earning itself unanimous military acclaim from Navies across the world.

With a range of case sizes, different models (including the new Black Bay Pro from Watches & Wonders 2022), and powered by impeccable TUDOR in-house movements, the TUDOR Black Bay collection is full of incredible timepieces to fall in love with. We especially love the TUDOR Black Bay Fifty-Eight Bronze; the brand’s first boutique-edition watch, only available to purchase outside of London at our TUDOR Boutique in Meadowhall. Be sure to book an appointment with our expert team to view it!

TUDOR Royal

Royal by name and royal by nature, the TUDOR Royal collection first began in the 1950s. The name was chosen to highlight the superior quality of these beautifully made watches. The Royal range today consists of automatic sport-chic watches, with a characteristic notched bezel and alternating surface polish and cut grooves.

Going with a contemporary take on classic design, the TUDOR Royal pays respect to the history of the brand, giving it a unique personality. Balance, elegance and versatility have driven the design of this stunning watch. New for 2022, this TUDOR Royal S&G Diamond Automatic Ladies Watch boasts a beautiful mother of pearl and diamond dot dial, combining superior quality with luxurious design.

At a glance:

  • 41mm case size

  • Up to 100m water proof

  • Powered by the self-winding mechanical movement, Calibre T603

Perfect for:

  • Those looking for a dress watch with a great heritage

  • Those who want to combine luxury with a sporty edge

TUDOR Pelagos

A tool watch that knows no limits, the TUDOR Pelagos is built for underwater adventure. Just like the Black Bay, the Pelagos also celebrates its 10th anniversary this year after being released in 2012, making the biggest impression with its unique auto-adjustable bracelet which expands or contracts with the varying depth and water pressure. Water proof to 500m and equipped with a helium escape valve, it’s still to this day an essential device if you’re doing any ‘saturation’ dives.

Another great characteristic of the Pelagos is the optimisation TUDOR have made to its readability. Not only does the dial present generously sized square hour markers and easy-to-read snowflake hands, but the luminous material ensures great visibility as it is the last colour on the spectrum to be discernible at great depths - like the TUDOR Pelagos FXD Men’s Watch, designed in collaboration with the Marine Nationale.

At a glance:

  • 42mm case size

  • Water proof to 500m and fitted with a helium escape valve

  • Patented auto-adjustable bracelet

Perfect for:

  • Diving. The Pelagos’ titanium construction makes it a great option as a diving watch due to its great resistance to corrosion by seawater. Discover more of our favourite diving watches here.

  • Those who want COSC certified chronometer accuracy

  • Being easy to read, even on your most demanding dives

What is a COSC certified chronometer?

A movement that has been tested and certified by an official neutral body: the Official Swiss Chronometer Testing Institute (COSC), to ensure the highest precision and quality.

TUDOR 1926

A collection that celebrates the year they began, the TUDOR 1926 collection captures the essence of the brand with timeless elegance at the heart of every watch. The range consists of mechanical watches in both men’s and ladies. Each watch has a vintage feel with an embossed and domed dial and Arabic numeral hour markers.

  • 100m water proof

  • Embossed dial

Perfect for:

  • Those who want a mechanical timepiece with a luxury feel

TUDOR Clair de Rose

Both delicate and bold in style, TUDOR Clair de Rose watches are imbued with the brand's rich history whilst remaining timelessly modern. The watches are punctured with blue detailing; the Roman numerals on the dial, the hands, and perhaps the collection's most recognisable detail, the blue spinel cabochon on the winding crow.

  • Case sizes ranging from 26 - 34mm

  • 100m water proof

  • Blue detailing

Perfect for:

  • A dress watch with a stylish point of difference
