One To Watch | TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Special Edition Chronograph
Perhaps one of the most exciting brand partnership announcements we’ve seen in a while, Swiss luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer and German sportscar manufacture Porsche have joined forces to create an alliance which celebrates motor racing and innovation.
Or, as TAG Heuer put it, “the strongest-ever partnership between a car manufacturer and a watch brand”.
At the forefront of this announcement? Two new watches – the TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Special Edition Chronographs.
Celebrating a partnership with Carrera
Both TAG Heuer and Porsche have iconic Carreras to their name and have been associated with the name for generations, so it’s no surprise a Carrera was the first product collaboration between the two brands.
Offering a first glimpse of what they can create together, the new TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph is truly a meeting of two iconic worlds.
Iconic Porsche design codes
Based on TAG Heuer’s Carrera Sport Chronograph design, with the distinctive tachymeter scale engraved on the bezel, this good-looking watch showcases Porsche’s design detailing well – a subtle nod here, a subtle stitch there.
Maybe the boldest of these details is Porsche’s engraved inscription, clearly visible on the bezel in its unmistakable font. The Arabic numbers on the dial are inspired by the numbers on the dashboard of Porsche sportscars, and the dial’s asphalt effect – which has been created especially for this watch – represents a passion for the racing track.
The Porsche colours of red, black and grey – recalling historic Heuer models – are showcased throughout the watch and on clear display through the transparent case back is the oscillating mass, which has been redesigned to Porsche’s steering wheel and is printed with “Porsche” and “TAG Heuer”.
Dial details & strap options
This racing-inspired timepiece is presented on a choice of luxurious calf leather strap with innovative stitching, echoing the Porsche interior, or on an interlocking H-shaped stainless steel bracelet, reflecting the streamlined racing design.
Protected by domed, bevelled sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment, the 44mm steel case is polished and fine brushed, with the grey asphalt dial featuring three chronograph subdials, a 6’oclock date window and TAG Heuer lettering.
Powered by the Calibre Heuer 02 movement
Visible through the transparent case back, the in-house Calibre Heuer 02 manufacture movement is the powerful heart, complete with an impressive 80-hour power reserve.
The chronograph mechanism’s vertical clutch and column wheel helps to achieve absolute precision timing. And, last but not least, the new TAG Heuer Carrera Porsche Chronograph is a Special Edition, coming in beautiful bespoke packaging. At £4,850 or £101.04 per month for the leather strap version and £5,000 or £104.16 per month for the stainless steel version with interest free credit, you could be part of the cool Porsche and TAG Heuer world with this beautiful watch.
