In My Jewellery Box | Adelle Thompson
When it comes to diamond talk, who better to grab a cuppa with than Adelle Thompson, Beaverbrooks’ Head of Buying and Merchandising, who has been hand-selecting our exceptional diamonds for over 25 years. We got the lowdown on Adelle’s jewellery box favourites and found out what new Beaverbrooks pieces have caught her eye.
How did your love for jewellery begin? Can you remember the first piece of jewellery you ever owned?
When I was five I was a bridesmaid for my cousin and was given a silver cross and chain and an expanding silver bangle, which I adored; the silver bangle I wore until my teens when it no longer fitted.
My first piece of ‘grown up’ jewellery was a 9ct gold Smokey Quartz dress ring, which was from my parents for my 16th birthday and was a big and bold statement ring - very fashionable in the 70’s! The ring came from M Beaver in St Annes on Sea, which unknown to me was a part of the Beaverbrooks family and which, some 14 months later, I would join and develop my career.
What’s your most special and sentimental piece of jewellery?
My beautiful engagement ring, even after 22 years I look at it sparkling away on my left hand and feel that emotional connection with my now husband. It reminds me of a time when we were starting to plan our life together and the excitement of knowing that I had met “the one.”
Apart from your engagement or wedding ring, what piece of jewellery do you wear the most?
What’s your biggest splurge?
A diamond bangle and matching dress ring which was an impulse purchase at one of the jewellery trade shows which the buying team attend. We were creating a new collection for Beaverbrooks and I saw this bangle and just fell in love with it in an instant. I felt that I had to have it so I bought it there and then. It’s not my usual considered purchase, however, I love it and the fact that it felt like an indulgence at the time. I still wear it and will cherish it for many years to come.
The collection still features diamonds (my favourite!), but with a very different look and feel to my classic solitaire diamond jewellery.
